Kunstallation Limbo Show

Howdy Folks,

The Pow! Zap! Kunst! show has officially come to a close. However, we ain't done yet. In between our larger group shows, we like to transition with what we call a "Limbo Show." Typically comprised of the same artists that showed in the preceding group show, these exhibits allow us to catch up a bit and "Kunst"ruct the next concept. Artists will swap out or pick up their work from the previous show and the walls will take on a new form for your viewing pleasure.

Swing on by the shop starting on 09/21/2009 to see the transformation begin and keep your eyes open for an another announcement about the Limbo Show and the next event set to occur in late Oktober(fest).

Swap, Leave or Pick Up!

All artists in the Pow! Zap! Kunst! show have been invited to do one of 3 things with their art at Dunn Bros. Coffee in Addison. Each arthero will either be (1) Swapping out their current work for somethin' fresh, (2) Leaving it up for enjoyment until September 21st or (3) Picking it up and taking it home.

In any case, head on out to Dbros. to see what your favorite artist has done with his or her work.

Peace,

The Kunstallationists

Kunstionnaire!

Welcome to the Kunstallationists' blog!

If you found us in Quick, this may be your first time joining us, and we want to thank you ever so much for swingin' on by to check us out. We also want to give the maddest, seriously insane asylum on 'roids-style props to the ever growing arts community in DFW for all their love and support. Each and every artist, organization, patron, friend and family member deserves a sloppy-drunk wet kiss for their dedication to creativity in our fair Metroplex. You inspire us and we hope that we can do the same.

In the spirit of Quick Magazine's recent Q&A session, spearheaded by the lovely Leah Shafer (THANK YOU), we went ahead and dreamed up a Kunstionnaire of our own. Enjoy!

Take the Kunstionnaire right here!

CMS + KERA = Fun with Initials and More!

I'll be really honest. This here is Andrew (one half of the Kunstallationists) and I'm ever so proud to inform the internets and its inhabitants that Cara Michelle Smith was recently interviewed by the one and only Betsy Lewis of KERA.

You can check out her interview and learn more about the upcoming SEED event right here at artandseek.org.

Kunstallationists at Seed 2009!

Make sure to swing on over to Sons of Hermann Hall next Friday (08.07.09) to check out the SEED 2009. This year, each participating artist was given a commercial sized Illy coffee can and asked to make a lamp/lantern from the caffeinated cylinder. Each lamp will be auctioned off to raise "seed" money for Art Conspiracy, which occurs in December. The Kunstallationists will each have a lamp at this event, so make sure to head out next weekend and bid generously.

Oh, and a special thanks to Kevin Obregon, Vanessa Neil (of The Cube Creative, Mike Arreaga, Ange Fitzgerald and the many others that are heading up this amazing pre-Art Conspiracy bonanza!

Jason Ice, We Thank Ye!

Artist, Jason Ice is no stranger to the Dallas creative scene but he is technically a "newkunster," participating in his first Kunstallation. He's been kind enough to consistently rep' this show on his facebook page by putting up critical information like the map below.

Furthermore, he has apparently completed his piece for the show and we're stoked to see it! His word is BLAGOONGA! if that tells you anything.

This is community.

We were there. So were you. (A Sneak Peek!)

As mentioned in the previous post, we're representing Kunstallations at the DIAC's "I AM HERE." show at the Southside on Lamar this weekend.

With one half of team Kunst on the road, we wanted to create an interactive spectacle of sorts that allowed show-goers and the Kunstallationists alike to all "be there" together.

Last night, you may have been asked to answer the question "Are you here?" on camera. If you were kind enough to entertain the inquiry, you'll be in this montage or an extended version tomorrow.

Look for a long-haired guy wielding a video camera tonight for two reasons:

1. You'll get your face all up on these internets in a multimedia homage to "I Am Here."
2. You'll get a voucher for some free or half off a tasty beverage at Dunn Bros!

See you "here" tonight!

We Are Here.

That's right. We're reppin' the Kunstallationist movement and the walls of Dunn Bros. Coffee this weekend at the DIAC's I Am Here show at the Southside on Lamar. Both Cara Michelle Smith and Andrew Tolentino will have work all up on them walls.

Check out thediac.org for more info.

Cara Michelle Smith sells 2!

Co-Kunstallationist, Cara Michelle Smith recently sold 2 pinhole photographs entitled "Chinese Takeout #1" and "Chinese Takeout #2" on her home field! She's out visiting some certain North American Natural wonders right now, but she'll be back soon enough, kicking more ass and taking more names!

These pieces will only be around until Wednesday evening when the buyer is set to pick it up, so make sure to check it out if you haven't had the pleasure.

kunst artist dan perez sells a piece!

Dallas artist, Daniel Perez recently sold a piece at the Kunstallations HQ at Dunn Bros. Coffee in Addison, Texas. Here he is with the lucky buyer.

The buyer, who shall remain nameless happened to be doing some business at the shop when he noticed Dan's work entitled "The Depths We Will Go," featuring imagery from an Aquaman comic book.

The next time you need a place to soak up some free WiFi, grab a tasty beverage and experience some great local art, swing on by Dunn Bros. Coffee in Addison.

It's coffee shop art that ISN'T shit!

Kunstallations on Craigslist

In an effort to propel the coffee shop art revolution, we recently put up the following ad on craigslist. If you or someone you know is down to play a role in ridding coffee shops of garbage uber traditionalist art, bring it on!

Attention all DdFW artists!

If you're like us, you're probably sick of the uber traditionalist art that typifies the walls of coffee shops, restaurants, offices, etc. north of 635. While the work is typically easy on the eyes, it's often times far too easy on the brain, as it becomes an ignorable background for latte sipping and laptop typing. In an effort to combat complacency, we the Kunstallationists have begun to hang (subjectively) fresher (definitely) aesthetically different work at Dunn Bros. Coffee in Addison on Beltline and Marsh.

We recently closed the first exhibit at the coffee shop and we would like to extend an invitation to all metroplex artists interested in displaying their work. We will be hanging a "limbo" or temporary exhibit beginning on Friday, May 10th and we would love to have your help in reconceptualizing the idea of coffee shop art in North Dallas.

Please email us at kunstallationists@gmail.com with an online portfolio or digital images to be considered for the "limbo" show and other events.

If selected for the "limbo" exhibit, we will reply with further instructions and your work will go up this Friday.
